I read all of the fiction in the Hugo awards packet every year, and one of the reasons is that it gives me exposure to a bunch of short stories and novellas that I otherwise wouldn't have heard of. This anthology is stuff that was on the nomination list but didn't make the final cut.

This anthology is overall thumbs up from me. I especially liked AirBody (a story about airbnb for body rental surprisingly about food, connection, and the cost of the closet in a homophobic culture) and Exile's End (about art repatriation and colonialism). I also would read a whole novel of the arranged marriage from In This, At Least, We Are Alike. Thanks, library.

One content warning is that there are two(!!) sequential(!!) stories that mention the terfy antisemitic wizard lady books vomit emoji. I have no patience for this nonsense existing in any form in my …
