Blonde is a bestselling 2000 historical novel by Joyce Carol Oates that chronicles the inner life of Marilyn Monroe. Oates insists that the novel is a work of fiction that should not be regarded as a biography. It was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize (2001) and the National Book Award (2000). Rocky Mountain News and Entertainment Weekly have listed Blonde as one of Joyce Carol Oates's best books. Oates has said that Blonde is one of the two books (along with 1969's them) for which she thinks she will be remembered.

I originally got interested in this book because of some fascination with the life and troubles of Marylin Monroe. Bought the book (in portuguese) but never got to read it. It rested on my shelf until I found the movie "Blonde", by Andrew Dominik. I was struck by the movie's ethereal and complex view of the character and decided it was time to read the book, only to find out that the movie was a very faithful transposition of the complexity of Marilyn in the book. Then I saw the movie again to notice a lot of details and connections that I had not noticed before. To sum up: an excelent book and an excelent movie that depict a fascinating and complex Marilyn Monroe. Highly recommended, espcially for those who crave complex biographies (like me)
